SETTING

In the heart of uncharted Alaska lies a realm no human has yet discovered. In reality, it is no different than other lands. But to the wolves who populate it, it means more than anything save life itself: Home.
For years these wolves have lived on in what may be described as peace. For peace is something you find when you are among friends and comrades. "Evil," in its bitter sense, had not tainted these lands. Or rather.. not since the darkness.
Nearly a century before the wolves' time, there were a group of eight wolves called the Immortals. They each represented one element, whether it be Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Ice, Weather, Light, or Darkness. Through them, the power of the elements could be channeled and used for the benefit of all - thus no argument or spite grew between any member of any pack.
Until the Shadow.
There was a time when records were not written.. and a gap of time that seems almost empty and nonexistent. This, we resolve, was when a form of evil seeped over the land like oil on the surface of a lake. The Immortals disappeared - or perhaps they were killed - and the land was thrown into chaos. The packs scattered from their homelands and divided, Alphaless, and the time of peace was altogether forgotten.
Until many years later... the light was found again.
A collection of wolves had wandered back to the ancient homeland.. and steadily began to form nameless, small packs. Time grew on... and peace once again seemed near in the future. Four new packs were formed: Crystal Moon, Black Storm, Misted Dreams, and Midnight Vision. And the second generation of Immortals rose to power.

HISTORY

The background story to The Eight is not a story for the faint-hearted. Long ago, back when Pangea, the single continent, still lived, there was a young Dire wolf named Rahjii. Like most other wolves, he found a mate and started a family of his own. However, nothing wonderful lasts for eternity. Rahjii was a very disturbed wolf, and got very sick during a harsh winter. His weak heart was slowly dissinigrating as he slept for hours on end, his son and mate warily by his side.

On the evening he was meant to die, something very strange occured. Rahjii hit a crack in time. He got thrown into an entirely different world rather than die peacefully and let his soul live on. He was painfully cast into a world shrouded in darkness and shadow. Rahjii, confused and afraid, stumbled upon a magnificient and terrifying cave over 100 feet tall. He followed an eerie rainbow light, perhaps the only light in the entire shambled, dark world.

When young Rahjii reached the end of this tunnel, he found a huge beast with fur made of fire and skin made of ash. It was asleep, and did not see Rahjii. However, Rahjii saw what was the cause of the mysterious rainbow lighting. Near the beast's claws was a pile of beautiful, lustrious stones set in a stone basket. Rahjii was so captivated by their beauty, he took the whole basket and fled from the cave. Only then did he somehow get thrown back into his own world and felt the breathe of life pulse through his body once more. At his side were the eight glittering jewels.

Rahjii's act would not soon be forgotten by the mysterious dark world. The beast that guarded the powerful stones would do anything in his power to get back the eight shards. Rahjii hid the stones away in a den, not thinking of any possible consequences. He didn't think the creatures in that world could possibly reach him. He went on to raise his son and be with his mate.

However, the creatures of the Dark World, as it came to be called, were very strong and mythical beasts. It took nearly two years, but in time, they broke open the portal once more that lead to Rahjii's world called Earth. It would take another six months to find him, but they were determined to retrieve their powerful stones. The beast in the cave led over 100 followers to Earth to find and kill the thief and whoever else was with him....

Rahjii began to notice the stones pulsating with strange colors and soft, ringing noises. He immediantly realized he wasn't safe anymore. Doing the only thing he could think of, Rahjii took his son and mate and fled their lands, taking the stones with them. Rahjii, almost obsessed with the stones, decided he would hide them in the far corners of Pangea. While he hid the stones, he had no idea the creatures of the Dark World were following his trail.

Fate finally caught up with Rahjii when he ended his roaming after hiding the last stone. On a cool October night it only took one of the creatures from the Dark World to alert the entire clan. Rahjii was no match against the 100 strong and powerful mythical beings. His mate was slain before his eyes, then he himself attacked. The creatures realized he did not have any of the stones with him and fled to search. Rahjii's son approached his fading father who revealed but one single stone for him to find. Before his son could ask him anything else, Rahjii passed into the afterlife once and for all.

Rahjii's son, Alkai, found the stone of Weather. The moment he touched it, however, it binded to his being and could not be removed. He harnessed unimagineable powers; the powers of Weather. The creatures of the Dark World had to retreat after an empty search because the portal was closing. However, they would return once again someday to get back their stones.

Soon, though, other unwitting wolves discovered the hidden stones, and one by one, eight different wolves were cursed and gifted with their powers. What they did not know is that these power-stones had evil within them, and no evil submits to providence. The stones took over the eight wolves, and even caused them pain. The wolves could not remove the stones therefore they endured blinding pain day by day.

However, the eight wolves soon began abandoning their attempts at dealing with the pain in reality. It only took one of them to break into the portal of dreams, where they all discovered there were others with these stones. In this dream portal, they were able to communicate even though they may be 1000 miles apart. They had a meeting and finally decided they had to do something about the stones, and they could only do it within the protective realm of the dream portal.

Harnessing all their powers, the eight forged a tower, a tower that would hopefully be able to control the stones and keep them from destroying. In reality, their bodies had died, but because their souls and minds were within the dream portal, they were sentenced to stay their for eternity. The tower which they put all their effort and lives into came to be called the Crosswind Tower. After 100 years, the eight immortals finally were able to directly control the evil powers of the stones. Within the complicated tower lay enchantments, spells, and powers to carefully subside the delicate thread of evil within the stones.

However, the Dark World had never stopped their attempts to get back these very magical stones. The stones had a mind of their own, and called for their beast-guard to retrieve them. After fourteen more years, the Dark World opened the portal once more. However, the moment they left their world, it cut them off and sent them into the dream portal where the eight immortals were safely tucked away. The creatures of the Dark World no longer could return to their home. They were stuck in the world of the eight immortals. The immortals were now trapped.

The guardian beast along with its hundreds of warriors attacked the fortress surrounding the Crosswind Tower. The eight did the only thing they could do: fight back. However, their powers were not enough to save them. The beast killed the eight, but as they were killed, he caused the stones to be thrown back into reality, where the eight immortals first combined with them. The creatures of the Dark World were now stuck in the dream portal with no ways of escaping...

Almost 1000 years later it came to present, Silver, the alien-wolf arrived at Earth from a faraway moon that orbited Saturn. Her father, one of the most powerful creatures in their universe, had a bloodthirsty hatred to kill his daughter. Zing and Silver, who had became mates, discovered her father atop Floear Mountain. Silver fought bravely and defeated her father, but fell to her death in the process. Silver's species was a very mythical and powerful kind. Her mother's spirit resurrected Silver, but gave her the life of the Wind immortal, one of the eight stones thought to have disappeared. It was the only way to save her daughter by giving her the spirit of the wind immortal.

Zing jumped after Silver in a desperate act of love, and somehow was granted with the stone of Weather. Thus beginning a new era in The Eight. Soon others in the continent of Alaska gained stones, but this time all eight lived in the same territory. Coincedience, perhaps?

The creatures of the Dark World were not forgotten, however. Silver's father was so powerful he found his way into the dream portal where the shambled quarters of the Crosswind Tower lay. There he led the creatures into a revolt. Instead of going to the new eight immortals, they would bring them to the dream portal.

Silver and Zing were captured into the dream portal, but no more than that. The once beautiful headquarters of the Crosswind Tower was now a deadly nightmare that would test Silver and Zing to their brink. They could not be awakened nor touched by any others from the real world. The rest of the immortals watched helplessly as Silver and Zing were attacked countless times. The only indication they saw were gashes, bruises, and even the sound of bones cracking.

In the former Crosswind Headquarters, Zing and Silver battled the many terrifying creatures from the Dark World. Silver stumbled upon the stones' guardian in a shadowed ruin of what was once an underground temple. Zing and Silver found their way to the top of the Crosswind Tower, where they met her father's demon's spirit. He was too powerful for them to fight, so they called on the immortals from the real world through communication of their minds. The immortals still in the real world projected all their powers temporarily to Zing and Silver, just long enough to defeat-once and for all, the mighty Axradius. (Silver's father)

This broke the bind to the dream portal and Silver and Zing returned to reality, barely alive but still living. They were nourished back to health, but it would not be long before the thousand years' spells wore off from the stones and they began to attack their keepers once more. However, this time it would destroy all of Alaska......
